HELLO

FRIENDS!

Stray to Spay is a 501(c)3 Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) organization reducing Omaha's stray cat population by humanely trapping, neutering, and vaccinating and then returning those that are feral to their colony and working with adoption rescues to get friendly cats and kittens into their forever homes. We also support colony caretakers by providing food and shelters for their cat colonies.

OUR
SERVICES

OurServices

We are a small group of individuals who are passionate about the welfare of community cats. We volunteer our time to work with individuals and businesses in the Omaha metro area who are in need of help.  Some of our services include trapping, transporting, and vetting of colony cats.

We also help low income individuals who need assistance providing food for their colony cats.

Together, with the help of our community, we can make a difference in our community cat's lives.

How We Work

In order to have the greatest impact, we work with two veterinary clinics outside of the Omaha metro area. We typically take 30 cats to vetting appointments on once or twice a month, depending on appointment availability.

What this means:

  • We do not always have appointments each week

  • Depending on the colonies we are working on, we either dedicate the majority of the spots to a larger colony and fill in extra spots with single cats or we spread out the appointments across different colonies

  • If you would like our help, please fill out a request form before trapping a cat to avoid having to release a cat or leaving it in a trap for too long

Got a cat in a trap?

Contact us at info@straytospay.org and we can provide a list of veterinary clinics in Omaha and the surrounding area that might be able to help you.

We do our best to respond quickly. If it is urgent, please try animal urgent care services.

Outside of the Omaha metro area?

At this time, we are unable to trap outside of the Omaha area. We can try to find other organizations to help you. Please contact us at info@straytospay.org and let us know where you are located and how many cats you need help TNRing.

TNR

FAQ

WHAT IS TNR?

TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Return.

TNR is the only effective way to control and reduce the number of feral cats in our community.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY CAT?

Community cats, also known as feral cats, are outdoor, unowned, free roaming cats.

WHAT IS AN EAR TIP?

An ear tip is a universally recognized safe and humane practice to indicate a cat has been altered and vaccinated.

The top portion of the cat's left ear is removed while under anesthesia for spay/neuter surgery.  This process does not cause harm to the cat.

I NEED MY COLONY RELOCATED, CAN YOU HELP?

Stray to Spay does not relocate community cats.  Even if done properly, relocation of feral cats can be ineffective and dangerous for cats.

While this may temporarily reduce the population in the area, due to the vacuum effect, new cats will move in to the territory.

I  HAVE KITTENS, WILL YOU TAKE THEM?

We often try to find a rescue and foster home for kittens under 8 weeks of age.  We will make every effort to place kittens, but due to limited resources during kitten season, there are no guarantees.

CAN YOU FIND A HOME FOR MY FRIENDLY FERAL?

We work with many local rescues to find homes for friendly cats.  While we will make every effort to find a rescue for your friendly feral, we cannot make any guarantees.
